CLEAN ENERGY NOW!
WWF, the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Renewable Energy Coalition launched in November a Clean Energy campaign to push for the passage of the Renewable Energy bill. The bill supports the development of renewable energy such as wind, biomass, hydro, solar and geothermal. WWF's PowerSwitch! scenario, a roadmap for sustainable energy, shows that there's more than enough renewable energy potential in the country– 1,200 MW for geothermal, 2,308 MW for hydro, 235 MW for biomass and 7,404 MW for wind. Increasing the share of renewable energy in the country's power mix will reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels such as coal and oil, and will result in savings amounting to US$ 2.3 billion for a 10-year period. The public can show their support for the Renewable Energy bill by texting WWF Yes to 2366 (Globe users). Register Now!

HUNGER: DO YOU KNOW THE FACTS?
It is estimated that one billion people in the world suffer from hunger and malnutrition. That's roughly 100 times as many as those who actually die from these causes each year. About 24,000 people die every day from hunger or hunger-related causes. This is down from 35,000 ten years ago, and 41,000 twenty years ago. Three-fourths of the deaths are children under the age of five. Famine and wars cause about 10% of hunger deaths, although these tend to be the ones you hear about most often. The majority of hunger deaths are caused by chronic malnutrition. Families facing extreme poverty are simply unable to get enough food to eat. In 1999, a year marked by good economic news, 31 million Americans were food insecure, meaning they were either hungry or unsure of where their next meal would come from. Of these Americans, 12 million were children. The Hunger Site began on June 1, 1999. Please remember to click every day to give help and hope to those with nowhere to turn. Every click counts in the life of a hungry person.
THE BREAST CANCER SITE
Your click on the "Fund Free Mammograms" button helps fund free mammograms, paid for by site sponsors whose ads appear after you click and provided to women in need through the efforts of the National Breast Cancer Foundation to low-income, inner-city and minority women, whose awareness of breast cancer and opportunity for help is often limited.
EARLY DETECTION: DO YOU KNOW THE FACTS?
Each year, 182,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer and 43,300 die. One woman in eight either has or will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. In addition, 1,600 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 400 will die this year. If detected early, the five-year survival rate exceeds 95%. Mammograms are among the best early detection methods, yet 13 million U.S. women 40 years of age or older have never had a mammogram. The National Cancer Institute and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommend that women in their forties and older have mammograms every one to two years. A complete early detection plan also includes regular clinical breast examinations by a trained medical professional. Monthly breast self-exams are suggested in addition. THE LITERACY SITE
Remember the magic of your first book? Perhaps you were nestled in the arms of a parent, or sharing a giggle with a friend. Whatever your first memory of a book, books are a powerful tool; they stir the senses, inspire the imagination and spark a love of reading that can last a lifetime. But what of children who have no books? The Literacy Site gives you a way to share the magic of books and promote the love of reading among children who might otherwise never discover the joy of their first book. Your click on the red "Give Free Books" button at The Literacy Site generates books for children in need, funded by site sponsors and provided through our award winning charity partner, First Book. In the last three years, First Book has distributed over 20 million books to children in hundreds of communities. The number of books we put in children's hands depends on the number of visitors who click the "Give Free Books" button on The Literacy Site. Please click every day, and encourage friends and family members to do the same.

THE ANIMAL RESCUE SITE
The Animal Rescue Site focuses the power of the Internet on a specific need -- providing food for some of the 27 million unwanted animals given to shelters in the US every year. Over 10 million animals are put to death every year in the US alone because they are unwanted, abandoned, or abused. Each click on the purple "Feed an Animal in Need" button at The Animal Rescue Site provides food for an animal at North Shore Animal League America or at one of the Fund For Animals' world renowned animal sanctuaries, including the Black Beauty Ranch in Texas and the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in California. Funding for food is paid by site sponsors, whose banners appear after you click the purple button, and goes to our aforementioned charity partners. The number of animals helped by the site depends on the number of visitors to The Animal Rescue Site. Please click every day, and encourage friends and family members to do so as well.
